Year: 2007

Location: Royal National Park NSW

Awards: 2007 Master Builders (NSW) Excellence in Construction Award – Sporting Facility Up to $5 million & Best Use of Timber

Located in the Royal National Park south of Sydney, this project comprises three buildings housing boat storage facilities, club rooms, a caretaker’s residence, a community hall and kiosk and new public change and toilet facilities.

These buildings have been designed in response to the sensitive yet harsh environment of a surf beach. Extensive use of plantation grown Blackbutt timber screens protected with natural lanolin that will weather grey; expressed stainless steel structure coupled with sprung curved colorbond roofs provide an iconic and durable presence for this important public facility. Use of solar panels, collection of rainwater and sensitive treatment of wastewater on site ensure that the buildings have a low environmental impact.
